What to Expect from the Riding Program Riding is at the core of The Hideout experience. Each guest’s schedule is built around time in the saddle, whether that means short, relaxing rides or full-day adventures into the high country.

We operate with a guest-first, horse-forward mindset. Our herd of about 100 horses is maintained specifically to support just 25 guests at a time, ensuring a great match between rider and mount each day. Before each ride, our team works closely with you to align on goals, ability level, and energy—so that each ride meets you where you are.

Ride lengths vary from 2.5 hours to 6 hours or more. Terrain, elevation, and ride tempo can vary significantly. Some days may involve open meadows and creek crossings; others may require navigating steep, technical trails. Your guides are seasoned riders who know the land and the horses intimately, and they’ll help determine the safest and most enjoyable options for your level.

Guests of all skill levels are welcome, but good physical condition is essential. The terrain is no joke, especially at altitude. For older or less active riders, we encourage honest self-assessment and openness to staff recommendations. The Hideout isn’t just a place to ride—it’s a place to ride well.
